Also, you are responsible for delivering process development activity at the Pilot Plant and Innovation Centre. Your focus is the mitigation of Commercial/Validation Plant technical risks by characterizing and optimizing the DAC process at the Pilot Plant and Innovation Centre. You achieve this through test campaign planning, analysis, and reporting as well as Key Performance Indicator (KPI) optimization. You review Plant modifications and verify design prior to implementation as well as keep Management of Change records up to date.
Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Management
Identify constraints to achieving Pilot Plant and Innovation Centre objectives and define the resources required to overcome these (e.g. software, equipment).
Contribute to a positive culture within the Process Engineering (Operations) Team; promote effective teamwork effort, a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
Mentor junior Process Engineers in process optimization, experimental design, data analysis and plant performance improvement.
Guide junior Process Engineers and Operators in the development and QC of test plans as well as protocols for test campaigns.
Provide input to prioritization and scheduling of Pilot Plant operations, in order to achieve team objectives.
2. Technical
Become the resident chemical engineering subject matter expert in our Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, with a solid fundamental understanding of our various process units.
Identify process and equipment characterization opportunities across CO2 capture, purification, compression, and storage operations.
Contribute to the continuous development of a techno-economic cost model and utilize the model to target process development/optimization for the highest impact and ROI.
Use targeted Design of Experiments to develop and execute test campaigns that deliver equipment and process cost/efficiency enhancements.
Analyze test data, develop conclusions, and communicate recommendations to the plant design team.
Research process equipment and liaise with vendors to arrange on-site pilot testing.
Identify CE’s process Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and develop an operating approach based on Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Make use of appropriate Quality Management tools and techniques to ensure that all learning and development opportunities are identified and exploited.
Write, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Collaborate with CE’s plant engineering team to define future plant control narratives and philosophies.
Maintain configuration control of DAC pilot equipment and documentation such as P&IDs (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams) and Plant equipment list.
Fulfill Process Engineering (Operations) Team responsibilities as detailed in the Operations Group Structure and Responsibilities document.
3. Safety
Demonstrate a positive safety culture within the DAC Operations Team.
Maintain the Pilot Plant in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations.
Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
Ensure that all safety-related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
